Oasis-Class vs Icon-Class Price Comparison

The Icon-class premium over Oasis-class isn't one number. It ranges from 34% on suites to 53% on balconies — and it nearly disappears if you're comparing the most expensive Oasis-class ship to the cheapest Icon-class ship. We tracked 277,000+ fares across all eight ships in both classes to map exactly where the class boundary is real and where it's just a label.

The short version: if you're looking at Symphony of the Seas, Icon is a different universe. If you're looking at Utopia, Icon is $29/night away.

Quick Answer — Oasis vs Icon Class Pricing

Cabin TypeOasis ClassIcon ClassPremium
Inside$157/night$216/night+37%
Balcony$184/night$282/night+53%
Suite$403/night$539/night+34%
  • Biggest gap: Balcony cabins — Icon costs $98/night more than the Oasis-class median
  • Smallest gap: Suites — only 34% premium despite being the most expensive cabin type
  • The twist: Utopia (Oasis-class) is only $29/night below Icon for balcony — the class line blurs at the top

The Class-Level Gap

At the aggregate level, Icon-class commands a meaningful premium across every cabin type. But the premium isn't uniform — it hits hardest on the cabin type most people book.

Cabin TypeOasis MedianIcon MedianIcon PremiumGap/Night
Inside$157$216+37%+$59
Oceanview$181$258+43%+$77
Balcony$184$282+53%+$98
Suite$403$539+34%+$136

Class medians across all ships. Oasis: 6 ships, 215,494 samples. Icon: 2 ships, 62,492 samples.

Balcony takes the biggest hit. The 53% premium on balcony cabins is the steepest relative gap — and balcony is the most popular cabin type on both classes. For a 7-night cruise for two, the balcony premium alone adds nearly $1,400.

Suites have the smallest relative premium. At 34%, the suite gap is the narrowest in percentage terms. Royal Caribbean prices Icon-class suites more competitively relative to Oasis than it does standard cabins — likely because the suite buyer is less price-sensitive and the upgrade experience is more differentiated.

Oceanview is a bad deal on both classes. Balcony costs $3-6/night more than oceanview on Oasis-class ships and the same pattern holds on Icon. Skip it everywhere.

Ship-by-Ship: Where the Class Line Blurs

Class averages hide the real story. The Oasis fleet spans a wide price range, which means the "premium" for stepping up to Icon changes dramatically depending on which Oasis-class ship you'd otherwise book.

ShipClassInsideBalconySuite
SymphonyOasis$140$162$360
AllureOasis$142$159$382
HarmonyOasis$146$157$346
OasisOasis$152$180$373
WonderOasis$182$208$352
UtopiaOasis$211$250$449
IconIcon$207$279$483
StarIcon$233$285$595

Median per-person, per-night. All sailing lengths.

The Oasis class spans a wider price range than the gap between classes. Harmony to Utopia is a $93/night balcony spread within Oasis. Utopia to Icon is only $29. The class boundary is a pricing fiction at the top of the Oasis fleet.

Utopia's inside cabins are actually more expensive than Icon's. At $211/night versus $207, Utopia insides cost $4 more than Icon insides. You're paying Oasis prices that exceed Icon for an Oasis-class ship. That's the strongest argument for checking Icon availability before booking Utopia.

Star of the Seas is in its own tier. Its suite median of $595/night is 23% above Icon and 72% above the cheapest Oasis-class suites. Star commands a premium even within the Icon class. For the full breakdown, see our Icon vs Star price comparison.

The Real Premium by Ship Pairing

The "Oasis vs Icon" question only makes sense as a specific ship-to-ship comparison. Here's what the step up to Icon actually costs from each Oasis-class ship.

Upgrading FromTo Icon Balcony ($279)Premium7-Night Extra (2 guests)
Harmony ($157)+$122/night+78%~$1,708
Allure ($159)+$120/night+75%~$1,680
Symphony ($162)+$117/night+72%~$1,638
Oasis ($180)+$99/night+55%~$1,386
Wonder ($208)+$71/night+34%~$994
Utopia ($250)+$29/night+12%~$406

From the cheapest Oasis ships, Icon is a 72-78% premium. Harmony, Allure, and Symphony all sit $117-122/night below Icon — a hard sell unless you specifically want the Icon-class experience. For the breakdown on why these ships are so affordable, see our Oasis-class ships ranked by price.

From Utopia, Icon is 12%. For $29/night — roughly $406 extra on a week cruise for two — you step up a full ship class. At that gap, it's worth checking Icon availability for your dates before committing to Utopia.

Wonder sits in the middle. At 34% more for Icon, it's a real premium but not absurd. This is the pairing where personal preference should drive the decision — the price gap is moderate enough that either choice is defensible.

Suites: A Different Calculation

The suite comparison doesn't follow the same pattern as standard cabins. The cheapest suites aren't on the cheapest ships.

ShipSuite MedianGap to Icon ($483)
Harmony$346-$137 (Icon +40%)
Wonder$352-$131 (Icon +37%)
Symphony$360-$123 (Icon +34%)
Oasis$373-$110 (Icon +29%)
Allure$382-$101 (Icon +26%)
Utopia$449-$34 (Icon +8%)
Icon$483
Star$595+$112 over Icon

Harmony offers the deepest suite discount versus Icon. At $137/night less, it's the widest gap in the comparison. Symphony and Wonder sit close behind. For suite buyers who want the mega-ship experience without the Icon-class price tag, these three ships deliver the most savings.

Utopia suites are the closest to Icon pricing. The $34/night gap is real but modest — roughly $476 extra for two guests over a week to step up to Icon. If you're suite shopping between Utopia and Icon, the price difference is small enough that the ship and itinerary should drive the decision.

Star's suite premium is extreme. At $595/night, Star suites cost 72% more than Harmony suites. For the full Icon-class pricing breakdown, including how Star and Icon compare to each other, we covered that separately.

Should You Upgrade to Icon-Class?

Yes, if you're comparing against Utopia or Wonder:

  • Utopia to Icon is only 12% more for balcony — check Icon dates before booking
  • Wonder to Icon is a 34% premium — moderate enough to justify if you want the newer class
  • Utopia suites are only $34/night less than Icon — price is a minor factor

No, if you're comparing against Symphony, Harmony, or Allure:

  • The premium is 72-78% for balcony — you'd pay nearly double
  • These ships offer the same mega-ship neighborhoods and activities at significantly lower prices
  • Put the savings toward onboard packages instead

The Oasis-to-Icon premium isn't one question — it's six different questions depending on which Oasis ship you're considering. At the bottom of the Oasis fleet, Icon is a 72-78% upgrade. At the top, it's a 12% step. For how the six Oasis-class ships compare to each other on cabin pricing and the Utopia vs Wonder matchup specifically, we've covered those head-to-heads separately.
