How the Cruise Drink Package Calculator Works

Every cruise line beverage package comes down to one question: will you drink enough to break even? This calculator uses your actual drinking habits, the real package price for your ship, and the automatic gratuity (18% on Royal Caribbean, 20% on Celebrity) to give you a straight answer.

Most beverage package advice online is based on guesswork. "If you drink 5-6 drinks a day, it's worth it." That's not wrong — but it ignores the fact that package prices vary by $30+ depending on your ship. A Deluxe Beverage Package on Allure of the Seas might run $62/night while the same package on Icon of the Seas costs $96/night. The break-even math changes completely.

We track beverage package prices daily across 30+ Royal Caribbean ships and the Celebrity Cruises fleet. The ship lookup above pulls live prices directly from the cruise planner. Use it to see what your specific sailing actually costs before you run the numbers.

What's Included in the Beverage Package

The Royal Caribbean Deluxe Beverage Package covers alcoholic drinks up to $14 per serving (cocktails, beer, wine), plus specialty coffee, bottled water, fresh-pressed juices, sodas, and non-alcoholic cocktails. The Refreshment Package covers only non-alcoholic options at roughly one-third the price.

Celebrity offers two tiers: the Classic Beverage Package covers drinks up to $12 per serving but excludes specialty coffee, soda, bottled water, and smoothies. The Premium Beverage Package covers drinks up to $19 per serving with full non-alcoholic coverage. Royal Caribbean charges 18% gratuity on top of the listed price; Celebrity charges 20%. Either way, it's a cost that's easy to overlook but adds up to $80-150+ over a week.

When Is the Best Time to Buy?

Prices fluctuate. Our data shows the cruise planner "sale" is essentially permanent — Royal Caribbean runs promotional pricing on packages more often than not. The real savings come from booking early (60+ days out) and watching for dips in the weeks before your sailing. We analyzed the timing patterns here.

If you've already purchased a package and the price drops, you can cancel and rebook at the lower rate through the cruise planner — no penalty. Set up a price alert and we'll notify you if it drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many drinks do I need per day to break even on the beverage package?

It depends on your ship's price and what you drink. For cocktails at $14 each with an $80/night package, you need about 6 drinks per day. For beer and wine at $9 each, you need about 9. Use the calculator above with your actual package price for a precise answer.

Does the beverage package include specialty coffee and bottled water?

Yes. The Deluxe Beverage Package (RC) and Celebrity's Premium Beverage Package both include specialty coffees, bottled water, fresh juices, sodas, mocktails, and smoothies — in addition to alcoholic drinks. Celebrity's Classic package does NOT include specialty coffee, soda, bottled water, or smoothies. The calculator factors in which extras are actually covered by your specific package.

Is the gratuity included in the package price?

No. The price shown in the cruise planner is before gratuity. Royal Caribbean adds 18% and Celebrity adds 20% automatically. On an $80/night package for a 7-night cruise, that's an extra $100-112 per guest. This calculator includes the correct gratuity rate for each cruise line.

Can I cancel and rebook the beverage package if the price drops?

Yes. Cruise planner purchases can be cancelled and rebooked at a lower price with no penalty, up until the day before boarding. We track package prices daily — set up a price alert on your account to get notified when your package drops.

Why do package prices vary so much by ship?

Royal Caribbean prices beverage packages differently based on ship class, itinerary, and demand. Newer ships like Icon and Utopia class tend to have higher package prices ($85-100/night) while older ships may offer the same package for $55-70/night. The ship lookup above shows the exact current price for your sailing.
